A World of Possibility (Source)
Behind everything that exists in this life lies possibility. Why do we forget this basic truth in the face of oppressive circumstances? We forget because those circumstances have become so solid and real in our minds as a way of life that it feels as if it can only go on like that forever. We assume that, regardless of what we might do to try and change things, the situation will not change. We have lost our sense of how circumstances are created, and with this, the faith in our ability to instigate the necessary change in our present situation.
Finding a way to recognize and fully appreciate the basic truth of possibility as source can provide a light at the end of the tunnel when we need it most. The world is plastic and modifiable. If we can admit that possibility exists (remote as it may seem when we are in despair) this can open the door in which change can enter. Change begins with a simple recognition of possibility.
Possibility is where all life begins. I use the word "begins," but this is inappropriate, for possibility is more of an ongoing place of origin and should not be associated with time at all. It is eternal. It is a well of possibility, and it is from possibility that all manifest reality emerges. Wholeness is the entirety of all that is and possibility lies behind it. Possibility is a realm that takes up no space at all. It is formless. It is emptiness. It is the boundless realm within which the one whole exists.
Forms are constantly changing within the realm of possibility. The whole, though singular and complete, changes all the time. There is no change to the fact of the one whole. Obviously, there will always be an everything. All that takes place within the realm of possibility must end (as it necessarily changes into something else).
One of the reasons why we forget to tap into the world of possibility is that it is, by nature, etheric and intangible. It fails to impress itself on us as anything more than a lofty idea. It seems more the subject of a children's book– a realm of magic and dreams. Yes, its perfection is profound, and yet this does not keep it from being immediately accessible to those who choose to entertain it. It is the source of all, quite real and it exists here and now. The process of all creation draws on this realm.
When we entertain possibility, we unlock our imagination (consciousness). We imagine and envision in line with what might fulfill us (what matters). When we give further attention to the visions of fulfillment, they multiply and have the potential for connecting to what is (current circumstances). This can open paths of prospective movement, and impulses follow that trigger the spirit (energy). We are inspired to act in accord and, if sustained, these actions bring about new circumstances (new matter).
Once again, nothing exists outside the realm of possibility. It is impossible. Nothing can touch it. It can never be corrupted. It is both empty and full. It is empty because nothing can stand in the way of it as abundant source, and it is full because everything that can be consciously imagined that ignites the spirit and matters enough will eternally spring from it.
How can possibility be empty and full at the same time? It is a remarkable thing. The emptiness allows for all things to be created within it, and yet no thing is permanent, so though it is full of all that has been created, nothing stands in the way of change. In addition, it is only sustainable because it is made of patterns that work together. These patterns are sustainable because they allow for more.
When we imagine, we trigger possibility. When we, in our freedom to dream, envision this or that, changes occur in the present moment that are powerful movements in consciousness. We, as all beings, are at the very core of possibility. In our heart of hearts, we are all the single awareness of infinite possibility, parsed out due to our identification with the bodies we call home.
The energy that is projected out and appears as the material world is in fact possibility being realized by our combined visions. Together, we build what we touch and feel as reality. It is not impenetrable, but instead maintained by what we think, imagine, feel, believe and care about.
The nature of possibility is creative and eternal. Yes, we connect to children’s books in this way, because as children we have yet to be so brought to task over what life must be. We understand deeply that we are creators and can make believe this and that, and have it become reality.
Understanding possibility is essential for the understanding of how forms in the natural world can bring about changes that heal. The existing organisms and natural forms are nothing more than energy behaving in accord with what can work (possibility). In our hearts, as creators, we feel our way and imagine ourselves and our lives balanced and harmonious. To heal, we need only recover this clarity about the freedom to create, and the power of our imagination as well as deep care for what feels right.
Take a moment to meditate on possibility itself. Sit quietly, and imagine what it must be to exist eternally (without beginning or end) as the fundamental truth of existence. Where does everything come from? Sure, life has its atomic particles, cells, organic structures and such, but where did all of this come from? Has it not existed in one form or another for all time? Everything that you can see, touch, smell, etc. is impermanent. What can and does exist always is possibility. It has no form, no structure and approaches all creation anew. What is permanent are the patterns that always work– the shapes that fit together. These shapes and their relationships that hold up and sustain are more a point of natural law– behavioral law.
Watch how children spin in circles– how they fill up a field– how an empty space of grass, a yard compels them to run around in it– to cover the space, explore it, spin. Together these children chase or allow themselves to be chased, bounce off each other’s energy, hold hands and rotate. Here is possibility being explored in its rawest form. Why do we suppose that subatomic particles feel any different? They spin because when one or more are present it is the simplest and strongest, most fulfilling, most playful behavioral relationship. Stars, galaxies, and solar systems know this just as readily. The shape that working relationships take are repeated again and again, just as are the building blocks present in the natural world. There is a geometry to it.
We live in service of that which we join to fulfill. Subatomic particles are no different. Once a pattern is established that allows for expression within the scope of what might fulfill the simplest of organized forms of energy, it is expressed and expressed. From the most basic organized energetic forms of particles to atoms, molecules to elements to plants, species after species, groups of forms taking on different tasks all to make something greater and more complex work and fulfill the potential that lies in the one possibility. This is how our natural world becomes so complex and full of the most incredible things.
